Christian Nielsen is the Director of AFE and has a diverse background which enables him to provide Clients with the appropriate engineering solution. As well as a full Masters in Fire Engineering from Canterbury University and a PhD candidate in Fire Engineering, he has a First Class Honours degree in Physical Chemistry and a Graduate Diploma in Micro-economics.  His chemistry background gives him the benefit of approaching Fire Engineering from a scientific view as well as that of engineering. AFE’s approach to Fire Engineering is neutral, systematic and rigorous and is consistent with scientific methodology, resulting in accurate and efficient solutions, whilst still achieving exemplar fire safety standards. He has also worked as a Fire Investigator and Researcher with the Building Research Establishment (BRE) UK, which is a world recognised leader in all facets of fire safety. This, along with his in-depth knowledge of chemistry and physics has enabled him to have a thorough understanding of true fire behaviour, enabling him to scrutinise fire computer modelling for its accuracy and applicability.

  • Member of the Institute of Engineers Australia (MIEAust) and Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng).
  • Registered on the National Professional Engineers Register (NPER) in the area of fire safety engineering.
  • Registered Fire Engineer on the Queensland Board of Professional Engineers (RPEQ).
